Do you have a WordPress project? Fantastic news! We’ve made all the necessary preparations with Axeptio and the Axeptio WordPress plugin to help you easily achieve GDPR compliance. Let’s walk through our step-by-step guide for integration.

I. WordPress and GDPR
Privacy and GDPR have become major concerns in recent years. Internet users are increasingly conscious of how their data is collected and used, leading to more stringent regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in Europe and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) in California. In this context, cookie management has become a fundamental aspect of website management. That’s why we strongly recommend integrating the Axeptio module for WordPress. With our plugin, you can configure your website to comply with the GDPR.
II. Why Axeptio is an Excellent Choice for Your WordPress
Site Facade Consent
When using a CMS like WordPress, you install plugins/extensions that provide various functionalities and may load external scripts, such as analytics or advertising solutions. These extensions are loaded when the page is created on the PHP side. Even if you have a cookie banner, the script is loaded regardless. This is what we refer to as facade consent. You may have a cookie banner, but it doesn’t impact third-party cookies/scripts. Consequently, you are not GDPR compliant. Facade consent often occurs unintentionally due to improper configuration by your developer or the person who installed the cookie banner. It’s just that the configuration is not correctly finalized, or an extension is loaded without being conditional on consent.
Axeptio with its WordPress plugin
The Axeptio plugin does more than just inject the SDK to display the cookie banner on your site. We’ve developed the plugin to work closely with the WordPress engine, disabling filters and shortcodes that trigger the collection of personal data, which requires consent. In other words, without your visitor’s consent, a plugin that inserts Facebook or Google code will not load. This is truly revolutionary, as Steve would say.
How to Install the Axeptio WordPress GDPR Plugin
Of course, you’ll need an Axeptio account with a created project and cookie configuration.
- Create an Axeptio account
- Download the plugin archive: https://wordpress.org/plugins/axeptio-sdk-integration/
- Unzip and place the .zip file in the wp-plugins folder to activate it.
- Configure your project ID and cookie version, then activate the plugin. In the extension section, select the extensions you want to block. You can configure hooks and filters very precisely.
- For more details, check out our WordPress documentation.
You can use Shake, our tracker and cookie auditing system, to verify your configuration in your back office.
Plugin Updates and Evolution for WordPress
In collaboration with the WordPress agency Amphibee in Paris France, which handles the development of the plugin, we are working on the vendor DB that will allow you to have an optimal configuration with just a few clicks.
The vendor DataBase: The WordPress ecosystem contains over 45,000 plugins, offering tons of options. We compile the main plugins that collect personal data to add them to the vendor DB. We carefully select filters and shortcodes to extract, allowing plugins to function while blocking certain features without user consent. Would you like to participate in updating the vendor DB? Participation is free 🙂
